How to Take Control of Your Retirement

Modern Social Security card.
During these economic times when you think of your retirement, two considerations should be uppermost in mind, preservation of principal and a guaranteed return.

However, there's a political issue that must be included along with your retirement strategy. You can not allow the politicians to continue taking your money knowing that the Social Security system is currently hemorrhaging and will be completely bankrupt by 2032 if not sooner.

At the same time, the politicians have guaranteed themselves a fabulous retirement at our expense. The politicians are our representatives, not our leaders. They are no better than we are and should not be allowed to have any more privileges than any other citizen of this country. It is our tax money that they are using to guarantee their fabulous retirement. We can not continue to be this dumb.

While so much energy has been spent in attempting to stop the outrageously expensive and rights destroying health care plan coming from the President known as Obamacare, the pathetic Social Security system can not be overlooked. Congress must be required to have the same type of retirement plan available to all of us.

We must also put a end to the different types of retirement plans that teachers, federal employees, and other public employees have. And, by the way, their retirement benefits are subsidized and guaranteed by our tax money. All these plans, therefore, are far better than the Social Security plan that the average citizen have. This inequality must end.

So, while you are planning for your retirement and restructuring your finances to conform to the considerations of preservation of principal, and a guaranteed return, you must not leave out the political component.

The Secret to Stop Paying Medicare Part B Premiums

Ida May Fuller, the first recipientImage via Wikipedia

Recently, I heard a guy who called in to a radio program and during the conversation mentioned that he was receiving $690 per month from Social Security and was paying $96.40 per month in Part B premiums. The host didn’t have a response to that statement, but I started to yell at the radio.

He should not be paying the $96.40 per month at all. He falls in the category of a Qualified Medicare Beneficiary which means that he is eligible for the Medicare Savings Program. Because his income is less than $932 per month, this program will pay all his deductibles, coinsurance and the Part B premiums. Social Security will not tell this to him or anyone else. You have to seek this information out for yourself. I have personally helped many Social Security recipients to stop paying the Part B premiums and both the coinsurance and deductibles.

Keep Control of Your Health Care

The Congress wants to take control of your health just like it already has control of your retirement. If you only have Social Security to look forward to in your retirement, you are in a precarious position. You do not own your Social Security plan, the Congress does. Similarly, if you allow the Congress to own your health care plan, you will be in an equally bad situation.

Whoever owns your plan can make whatever changes whenever they choose. As with Social Security, the Congress changed the retirement age to 67 a few years ago and now threatens to move it even higher because the Social Security system is now hemorrhaging and soon will be bankrupt. The Congress can also change the amount of your benefits whenever it chooses. Even though you paid into the system while you were working, your benefits are not guaranteed. You must not now allow the Congress to control your health care in the same way.

Study the plans that are being proposed and if this requirement is being ignored, let your Senators and Representatives know immediately. More on this next time.
